Karteikarten
PSYB01 - Chapter 13
Karten in diesem Stapel (19)
- 1Inferential statisticsUsed to determine whether we can state that the results reflect what would happen if the study was conducted again.
- 2Statistically significantGroup differences are due to random error or the independent variable.
- 3Significance levelAlso alpha level - the willingness you are to be "wrong"
- 4Research hypothesisGeneral hypothesis stating a possible relationship.
- 5Null hypothesisStates that population means are equal.
- 6T testAllows you to determine whether the mean difference found between two groups came from the null hypothesis.
- 7Degrees of freedomAdjustment used to account fro the fact that we are estimating population values.
- 8One tailed testWhen the research hypothesis specified a direction of difference between the groups.
- 9Two tail hypothesisThe research hypothesis did not specify a predicted direction of difference.
- 10F testExtension of the T test when there is more than two levels of an independent variable.
- 11Systematic varianceThe deviation of the group means from the grand means.
- 12Grand meansMean score of all the participants in a study.
- 13Error varianceThe deviation of the individual scores in each group from the respective group means.
- 14Type I errorsWhen we reject the null hypothesis and it is actually true.
- 15Type II errorsWhen the null hypothesis is retained based on sample data, but is actually false.
- 16Power analysisRelated to the likelihood that you will retain a null hypothesis that is actually false.
- 17Chi squareStatistical test appropriate only when both variables are on a nominal scale.
- 18Confidence intervalsWhen they do not overlap, the results are most likely statistically significant.
- 19Conclusion validityExtent to which the conclusions reached are correct.
