- 1What does the respiratory system do?The respiratory system takes in oxygen.

- 2What does the digestive system do?The digestive system makes food available in a form the body can use.

- 3What does the circulatory system do?The circulatory system carries the food and oxygen to the cells where it is needed.

- 4What does the excretory system do?The excretory system gets rid of the wastes.

- 5What does the skeletal system do?The skeletal system supports the body and enables it to move.

- 6What is digestion?Digestion is the process of breaking down food into a usable form and making the nutrients available.

- 7What are the two types of digestion? The two types of digestion are mechanical and chemical digestion.
- 8What is mechanical digestion?Mechanical digestion happens when you tear and chew food with your teeth.
- 9What is chemical digestion?Chemical digestion happens when saliva in your mouth and gastric juice in your stomach break down your food.

- 10What are the four types of teeth we have?-Canines
-Incisors
-Premolars
-Molars
- 11What do the canines do?The canine teeth don't have a significant function or job in humans but in animals, the long canines are used to hold onto the food as it is torn apart.

- 12What do incisors do?The incisors are the pairs of teeth at the front and their job is to bite off pieces small enough to chew.

- 13What do the molars and the premolars do?The premolars and molars grind the food into smaller and smaller pieces as you chew.

- 14What is saliva?Saliva is a watery liquid produced by your salivary glands.

- 15What does saliva do?Saliva contains a chemical that starts to change any starch in the food into glucose. It also moistens the food making it easy to swallow.
- 16What is bolus?Bolus is when food is rolled into a ball by the tongue.

- 17What is an oesophagus? The oesophagus is a long, muscular tube that has the mouth at one end and the stomach at its other.

- 18What does the oesophagus do?The muscles of the oesophagus push the ball of food down the tube by contracting behind the ball.
- 19What is peristalsis?Peristalsis is the process of pushing food through the digestive tract by altering contraction and relaxation of muscles.

- 20What is epiglottis? The flap of skin in the oesaphagus that stops food from entering the windpipe.
