  1. 1GEOGRAPHY/LOCATIONGeography can be one way to help determine a target market. For example, a company that makes snow tires would be more interested in the consumers located in the northern parts of the United States and in the mountainous regions. For example, snow tires would appeal to anyone who owns a car and lives in these areas.
  2. 2AGEAs people grow older, their tastes and
preferences change. For example, a television show may be given a particular time slot because market research shows that people ages 13 to 18 watch television during that time and that is the target market the show is going for.
  3. 3SEX (gender)If an advertiser believes that its target market is female, then much of its advertising will be geared towards a
female audience. For example, make-up and other beauty products are generally marketed to a female.
  4. 4Common Interests/ Group MembershipDoes the group as a whole share common interests, such as gaming, bowling, geo-cashing, or fishing?
Does the audience belong to a specific group. Religious, Ethnic, Political, Sports, Interest group (clubs, etc.)
  5. 5ValuesWhat values might the group of people hold?
Parents of young children?, Teenagers, Teachers?, Senior citizens?, People with health problems?, Etc.
  6. 6Income Range/ClassIs the target audience people who have lots of money? Are they middle class? Low income (this would be rare). Think of how expensive the product is and what it’s used
    for.
  7. 7Target AudienceRemember – every add is made for a specific audience, now you are better equipped to identify who the target
audience is for all kinds of ads! Location, Age, Gender, Common Interests/Group Membership, Values, Income Range/Class
