Differences between Network Attached Storage and Storage Area Network

Differences between Network Attached Storage and Storage Area Network

1. Storage Area Network

   • Professional and Enterprise
   • More Expensive
   • Requires More Administration
   • High speed using fiber channel
   • Speed in ranges from 2 gigabit to 128 gigabit per second
   • SCSI, iSCSI, FCoE
   • Works with Virtualisation
   • Has Fault Tolerance

2. Network Attached Storage

   • Home and Small Business
   • Less expensive
   • Easy to Manage
   • Speed dependant on TCP/IP and the ethernet network used
   • Speed in ranges from 100 megabit to 1 gigabit per second
   • NFS , SMB , HTTP
   • Does not work with virtualisation
   • Single point of failure
