1. Cue- dependant forgetting

   • a type of forgetting based upon a failure to retrieve the prompts that trigger recall
   • Tulving
   • many studies are laboratory based so lacks ecological validity
   • Many psychologists see CDF as the main reason for forgetting in LTM, due to the amount of research evidence supporting the importance of cues and how they trigger memory.

2. Interference

   • an explanation for forgetting when similar material is confused in recall from the LTM
   • Baddeley & Hitch
   • it only really explains forgetting when two sets of information are similar
   • Studies show interference to be a real effect e.g Baddeley and Hitch
