    • This group fills up about 1/3 of the plate
    • You should eat 5 potions of fruit and veg a day
  2. How it came about

    • The Eatwell guide was brought in as a healthy eating general rule in March 2017 it was devolped by scientists and the goverment
    • It was used to combat obesity which was a rising issue in the UK and still is
    • It tells people how much of each food group they should be consuming.
    • This is it ->
  3. Carbohydrates

    • They cover 1/3 of the guide and also include starchy foods
    • Included in this group are foods like pasta, rice, potatoes, cereal and bread
    • Carbs are fuel for your body because they contain glucose, which is your body's number one source of energy
    • They help your brain work faster as your brain runs on glucose. They may improve your thinking speed!
    • Like fruit and veg provide vital vitamins
    • Although the many health benefits that come with carbs, they can make you very fat and it is then harder to lose weight because the carbs act like another layre of fat.
  4. Dairy

    • Products like milk, cheese and yogurt come under dairy
    • Eating cheese and some other dairy products reduce the risk of dieabetes however in some cases breast cancer and other cancer has been linked to dairy
    • This food group only covers a small percentage of the plate
    • Calcium is in dairy and that helps with strong bones and teeth
    • It's a great source of protein
    • Dairy has a lot of colestral in it which is bad for your body
  5. Meat, egg, fish and beans

    • This only covers a small portion of the guide as they are not needed much, this is why there are many people who are vegatarian
    • They also contain vitamins especially vitamin B
    • This group provides protein which the body needs to grow and develop
    • They contain iron which is needed in the body because it is a way to store oxegen
    • Meat is shown to increase risk of cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Processed meat is even worse!
    • Most of us do not have enough fish in our diet, you should try and eat fish at least once a week as it is high in omega 3 and it can protect your heart
  6. Food and drink containing fat and sugar

    • These foods fill up the smallest space as to achieve a balanced diet you want as little as possible of this food group
    • Getting enough of this food group can be achieved with natural sugars which can be found in fruits; it is not a good idea to fill up on sweets
    • Fizzy drink is a big one in this catorgry as well as enegry which both have a diablocal amount of sugar in them
    • Sugar and fats are the cause of many diseases and cancers, they are also the cause of obesity
    • It is ok to enjoy these treats every once in a while (because they taste nice) however you need to set limitations
    • You do need a bit of fat in your diet as it protects your internal organs and is also used for insulation
  7. Other things

    • The guide says it is important to drink at least 8 cups of water a day
    • You do not have to achieve the eatwell guide every meal or every day it can be achieved over the span of a few days or a week.
    • People of every age should try and achieve the Eatwell guide however diffrent people may need more of one food group than another
    • The guide does not work with people who may have special dietry needs for example: people with low blood sugar. It is general.
