Computer Performance

1. Clock speed

   • The number of fetch decode execute cycles a CPU and preform (per second)

2. Cores

   • The number of processors in the CPU
   • Dual core: 2 processors
   • Quad core: 4 processors
   • To improve the cores you can add more of them to run the fetch decode execute system simultaneously

3. Cache

   • The memory in the CPU which is used to store commonly used data so it can be accessed quickly
   • If you add more cache you can store more frequently used instructions making it faster to complete tasks

4. RAM

   • Stores the programs, files (currently being used) and parts of the operating system
   • RAM is volatile meaning that data isn't stored
   • To improve it you can add a larger capacity preventing you from using virtual memory (which is much slower than the RAM)
