1. Types of Services

   • Processing
     • Computer Processing is where power can be provided through the cloud as a service. This means that you could run programs remotely so that your computer doesn't have to process so much itself, it can process remotely through the cloud which will make your computer run faster when solving complicated programs (eg. programs with many complex mathematical calculations).
   • Infrastructure
     • Infrastructure (hardware) can be provided as a service through the cloud. This means that you can pay to use the host's hardware which is useful if you only want to use it for a short time, rather than buying the hardware independently.
   • Storage
     • Storage can be provided as a service through the cloud, which allows you to store your data remotely on the host's servers. This means you don't have to store data locally which will mean less space is used on your device. You sometimes have to pay for a large amount of cloud storage.
   • Software
     • Software is the programs and other operating information used by your computer. Software can be offered as a service remotely so that you don't have to buy and install it to your computer locally. This is good because you can just pay to use the software when you need it rather than permanetly storing it.

2. Advantages

   • Services, such as software or storage, can be accessed on any device that is connected to an internet connection.
   • It is easy to increase the amount of storage or infrastructure available, which makes the cloud efficient.
   • Security (how safe something is) and backups (where data is copied or saved) are managed by the host company so you can guarantee your data is held responsibly.
   • Cloud software is automatically updated so you don't have to keep track of the latest version of the software's you're using remotely.
   • You don't need to pay IT staff to manage the hardware, so costs are cut for using different resources.

3. Disadvantages

   • You must have an internet connection, preferably a strong one, to access any stored data, processing power, infrastructure or software's.
   • Cloud storage can be vulnerable to hacking so you shouldn't save any confidential or sensitive data to the cloud. All personal information should be saved locally.
   • You are dependent on the host company for providing security and backups so they have to be reliable.
   • Cloud computing services (storage, processing, software and infrastructure) can be expensive.
