Chapter 1

  1. 1.1

    • Congruent: two lines that are the same length
      • Ray: made of a point and all the points after on one side
        • Midpoint: middle of a line segment. Separates line into two congruent segments.
  2. 1.3

      • Linear pair angles form a line and share a side
        • supplementary: angles that add up to 180deg
          • complementary: angles that add to 90deg
  3. 1.5

      • Scalene triangle: a triangle that has diffrent lengths. no triangles have congruent sides
        • Obtuse angle: a triangle with one angle that is abtuse or larger that 90deg
  4. 1.4

      • convex: all diagonals are inside the polygon
        • polygon: closed figure in a plane, formed by connecting line segments endpoint to endpoint with each segment intersecting exactly 2 others
          • each line segment is called a side
            • each endpoint is called a vertex of the polygon
              • diagonal of a polygon is a line segment that connects two nonconsecutive vertices
                • equilangular polygon: polygons in which all angles have equal measure
                  • regular polygons: polygongs that are both equolateral and equiangular
      • congurent polygons: equal length and equal angle measures
        • perimeter: the sum of the legnth of the sides
        • equilateral polygon: polygons which all sides have equal lengths
  5. 1.6

      • square: an equilangular rectangle, four equal sides and 4 equal angles
        • rhombus: an equilateral parallelogram
          • parallelogram: two sets of parallel sides
            • rectangle: equiangular parallelogram
              • trapezoid: a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides
  6. 1.2

      • Vertex: point of an angle
        • measure of an angle: smallest amount of rotation about the vertex form one ray to the other
          • reflex measure of an angle: the largest amount of rotation less the 360º between the 2 rays
            • congruent: same or equal measure. 2 angles are congruent if and only if they have the same measure
              • angle bisector: ray that spilts the angle into two congruent angles
  7. 1.8

    • Cylinder: 2 circular bases that are congruent and parallel
      • Cone: circular base with a point
        • Prism: 2 congruent polygon bases lateral sides are rectangles
  8. 1.7

    • Central Angle:the angle with its vertex at the center of the circle, and sides passing through the endpoints of the arc
      • The arc of a minor arc is the same measure of the central angle.
        • The measure of a major arc is the same as the reflex measure of the central angle
          • the given distance from the center to the edge is the Radius
            • the middle point is called the center
              • Chord: a line segment that has endpoints on a circle
                • Diameter: chord that goes through the center
                • point of tangency: point where that tangent line touches the circle
                  • tangent: line that has one point on a circle
                    • congruent circles: 2 or more circles with the same radius
                      • Concentric circles: 2 or more coplanar circles that share the same center
                        • endpoints: the two points of the arc
                          • semicircle: an arc of a circle whose endpoints are the endpoints of a diameter
                            • minor arc: an arc of a circle that is smaller than a semicircle.
                              • major arc: an arc of a circle that is longer than a semicircle
