Hardware

  1. CPU- CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT.

    • KNOW AS THE BRAIN OF THE COMPUTER BUT DOESNT THINK
    • THE CPU DOES A CYCLE ( Fetch-Decode-Execute )
    • The CPU consists of integrated circuits in the microprocessor of a computer.
    • The CPU is responsible for processing information and controlling the computer.
    • In the CPU are the control unit , which manages the execution of the instructions, and the ALU , which performs mathematical and logical computations.
    • In the CPU are storage locations called registers
    • One of these is the program counter which contains the location of the current instruction.
    • The CPU communicates with other components such as memory through bundles of signal wires called buses
    • contains the control unit, ALU and cache memory.
  2. CLOCK SPEED

    • Fetch-Decode-Execute cycle
      • the cpu runs faster
      • the CPU produces more heat
      • the lifetime of the CPUmaybe reduced
      • Fetch: retrieves information from the main memory
        • decode: works out what needs to be done
          • execute : carries out an instruction
    • ALU
      • Arithmetic logic unit
      • preforms arithmetic and logic functions
    • clock chip--a device inside the computer that controls the timing of signals by sending out pulses
    • clock speed is measured in hertz
    • over clocking--make the computer operate faster than the frequency specified by the manufacter
    • cache memory
      • It is an area of memory that can be accessed quickly by the CPU.
      • It is used to store regularly used items so they can be loaded faster.
      • Your web browsers save web pages here when you open them for the first time.
