1. Diffusion- movement of ions or molecules from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration

   • passive- relies on kinetic energy
     • does not require protein channels or carriers

2. Osmosis- Passive process- movement of water from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration through a partially permeable membrane

3. Active Transport- movement of ions against a concentration gradient using carrier proteins and ATP

4. Facilitated Diffusion- Passive process- involves protein carriers + channels and ATP- movement of glucose and amino acids

5. Water Potential- measure the ability of movement from water molecules

   • measured in kPa
     • solutes restrict movement = -...kPa

6. Co- Transport- two substances (glucose+sodium) are simultaneously transported across a membrane
