DEFINITIONS

Waves with the partcles oscillating parallel to the wave motion are called Lonfitudinal wave.

Those with oscillations perpendicular to the direction of progression are called Transverse waves.

Movement back and forth in a regular rythm is called Oscillation.

Amplitude is the maximum displacement from the mean position (metres, m)

Period os the time taken for one complete oscillation (seconds, s)

Frequency os the number of complete oscillations per second (hertz, Hz)

Phase of an Oscillation

there are three types - phase, antiphase and out of phase.
