Cards in this deck (18)
- 1CPUThe central processing unit carries out all the processing in the computer by using electrical signals to control the flow of the data within the CPU. The CPU uses the Fetch Execute Cycle.
- 2FEC (Fetch Execute Cycle)fetch the instruction from memory- decode the instruction to find out what processing do- execute the instruction.
- 3clockspeedThis is how fast the FEC cycle happens per second. This is determined by an electronic clock chip and this is measured in HERTZ.
- 4cache memoryData is stored that is from current running applications to make it easier to access as transferring memory data to the main memory can cause delays.
- 5RAMRAM (Random Access Memory) is accessed and changed by the computer.Contains the OP. It is large (4GB or more). stores programs/data being used by the computer. volatile (looses data if power turned off)
- 6ROMROM (Read Only Memory) is non volatile (data saved if power turned off). programmed while manufacturing the computer (cant be changed). stores the bios. It is small (1 or 2 MB)
- 7secondary storageMagnetic hard disk,Optical disk, Flash memory
- 8magnetic hard diskstores the OP installed programs and use data. reliable. high capacity. low cost.
- 9optical disktransferring files or distributing software. good capacity. light weight. portable
- 10flash memorygood capacity. used in held devices. more expensive than a hard disk.
- 11durabilitydoes it need to be transported and if so is it easily damaged?
- 12reliabilitydoes it need to be able to be used over and over again without failing?
- 13the internetnetwork of networks. made up from LAN, WAN,MAN
- 14WANWide Area Network
- 15LANLocal Area Network
- 16MANMetropolitan Area Network
- 17virtual memorypart of the hard drive that's used as an extension to the RAM. It's used when the computer doesn't have enough room in RAM. Adding more RAM improves the performance of the computer.
