COMP333 Test 1
Cards in this deck (24)
- 1What are the features of interactivity and 'richness'?- User Input
- Visually Interesting
- Well Designed
- Dynamic
- Changing content based on user input and actions - 2What are HTML Forms? They are a simple and effective way of collecting data from users
They allow inputs of different types of data
They handle collections of data for you - 3If we ask users to enter personal data, what are the important things we need to consider?- Privacy
- Securiity - 4How do we submit user data?Using two submit methods "GET" and "POST"
- 5Explain the "GET" methodForm data is encoded by the browser into a URL
This is not a good choice for large amounts of data - 6Explain the "POST" methodForm data is encoded into the body of a message
The data is not visible in the URL - 7What are Cascading Style Sheets?- Separation of content (the information displayed on the page) from presentation
- The style is defined in one file (using CSS) which is referred to by the content file
- Makes it easier to modify the presentation and be consistent across multiple pages of a site - 8What is a web server?A computer program that is constantly running listening for requests for information
- 9What are Dynamic Pages? The content of a dynamic page is constructed automatically when requested
- This normally entails running programs/scripts that generate HTML
- Parameters can be used to determine what HTML is generated - 10What are Static Pages? When the page doesn't change dynamically, the page is just requested, returned and displayed in the browser.
- 11What does AJAX Stand for?Asynchronous JavaScript and XML
- 12What is AJAX?The process of using asynchronous requests from the browser to the server to fetch partial data which is then used to update part of the browser-displayed document without a page-refresh
- 13How does AJAX work? When new data is received we dont reload the entire page just update the relevant parts of the existing page
- While the data is being retreived users can still interact with the existing page
- Gives web based applications responsiveness similar to desktop applications - 14What type of requests are used in AJAX?Http requests made for some segment of information from a webserver
- 15What does AJAX use to modify a page?AJAX uses DHTML to modify a segment of a page using partial content that is returned
- 16AJAX: How can we send data back and forth? We can send data back and forth using AJAX but we can use other data representations if we wish
- 17Where does AJAX come in?- We add a layer between the client and server to manage communications between the two
- The client (in javascript) creates the XMLHttpRequest object to manage a request - 18How does the XMLHttpRequest Object work?- The client creates an XMLHttpRequest object to manage a request
- The XMLHttpRequest object sends the request to the server and waits for the response
- Once the server responds the XMLHttpRequest object calls a client-side function to process the returned data - 19What method would we use to convert any JavaScript Object to JSON? How would we call it?stringify()
let arrayAsJSON = JSON.stringify(myArray); - 20Why would we choose XML over JSON?If the data returned will be integrated intact in the displayed document then XML may be the better choice
- 21What are some of the pros of JSON over XML?JSON representations are smaller than XML and the parse function is fast and simple
- 22What ways do we use to exchange data:?- key=value pairs for GET/POST
- raw data values
- HTML
- XML
- JSON - 23What is XML?An extensible markup language which allows users to define their own customised markup languages, especially in order to display documents on the Internet
- 24What is JSON?JavaScript Object Notation. Exchanging Data. When exchanging data between a browser and a server, the data can only be text. JSON is text, and we can convert any JavaScript object into JSON, and send JSON to the server. We can also convert any JSON received from the server into JavaScript objects.
