Flashcards

Chapter 14

Kevin Floyd kines 2200 English 15 cards

Cards in this deck (15)

  1. 1Inferential statistics- techniques that allow us to study and then make generalizations about the population
    - used to test hypothesis
  2. 2sampling error- differences among groups which means sample is not 100% representative of population
    - The extend to which the sample deviate from those that would be obtained from the entire population
  3. 3hypothesis testing procedure1. state the hypothesis
    2. state probability level
    3. consult the statistical table
    4. conduct the statistical test
    5. accept or reject null hypothesis
  4. 4state the hypothesisHo, Ha, H1, H2
  5. 5state the probability level- the probability that if an effect is found, it is due to sampling error
  6. 6consult the statistical table- computer program creates a p value
    - rejects the null hypothesis if the p value is less than the alpha level
  7. 7accept or reject null hypothesis- if the statistical test is significant then the Ho is rejected
    - If it is non significant then the Ho is accepted and any difference is due to sampling error
  8. 8statistical tests- 1 group t test
    - 2 independent group t test
    - 2 dependent group t test
    - analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
    - One way ANOVA
    - Repeated measures ANOVA
    - 2 way ANOVA
  9. 91 Group t test- is the sample similar or different from a defined known population
    - usually 2 alternate hypothesis so to a level it is set at two tailed
  10. 102 independent group t test- are the 2 samples different from each other
  11. 112 dependent groups t testare 2 measures of the same sample different from each other
  12. 12Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)are more than 2 samples (different groups) different from each other?
    - analyze whether or not the means if several groups are equal, and therefore generalizes the t test to more than 2 groups
  13. 13One way ANOVA- with 2 groups will be the same as 2 independent group t test
    - use ANOVA when there is more than 2 groups
  14. 14Repeated measures ANOVA- analysis when a participant is measured on two or more occasions
    - if there are only 2 measures for each participant: 2 dependent group t test
    - more than 2 measures: RM ANOVA will be used
  15. 15Two way ANOVA
