Cards in this deck (8)

  1. 1What is TEP and what is it based on?form of behaviour mod based on principles of OC, specifically reinforcement
  2. 2Where are TEP's used and for what purpose?Used in closed institutions (e.g. prisons + young offenders institutes) to encourage pro social behaviour
  3. 3How do TEP's work and what is the aim?TEP's work by awarding tokens to inmates for performing a desired behaviour, these tokens can then buy rewards. The aim is for the behaviour to be repeated.
  4. 4What would the institution have to do and what is the expectationThe institution would have to set out a list of desired behaviours and then reinforce them when they are displayed. Expectation= the behaviour will become learned and automatic
  5. 5What are the positive reinforcers? Give examplesPositive reinforcement comes in the form of giving tokens which can then be exchanged for desired rewards which are primary reinforcers. Such as sweets, telephone credits and extra leisure time
  6. 6How does negative reinforcement feature? This comes from the threat of removal of tokens and therefore prisoners change behaviour to avoid this
  7. 7Does it use behaviour shaping and if so how does this work?Yes. Behaviour shaping works by gradually altering behaviour through selective reinforcement of behaviour that approximates the desired outcome.
  8. 8Why does it work?Works because inmates behaviour is constantly being observed in order to reinforce
