- 2What does the Program Counter (PC) do?The program counter is a register that holds the address of the next instruction to be executed.
- 3What does the General purpose register do?It holds data during arithmetic calculations.
- 4What does the arithmetic logic unit.A unit in a computer which carries out arithmetic and logical operations.
- 5What does the Memory Address Register (MAR) do?MAR holds the address of the current instruction being executed.
- 6What does Memory Data Register (MDR) do?MDR stores data that is processed at the time.
- 7What does the Control unit do?The control unit co-ordinates and controls all operations carried out by the computer (Fetch-Decode-Execute).
- 8What is meant by Clock speed?It is the speed that the processes operates, it is the speed that the processes operates and is measured in Hertz (Hz).
- 9What is Cache?Cache is a small amount of very fast expensive memory on the CPU, when an instruction is fetched from main memory it is copied to the cache.
- 10How does Random Access Memory (RAM) work?As the device is being used the programs are copied from the hard disk drive to the RAM, and the RAM starts to fill up.
- 11What is Read Only Memory (ROM)?A permanent storage device (non-volatile), when the computer is switched on the operating system is held on the hard drive.
- 12What is a Secondary Storage Device?Non- volatile memory that holds programs to be used at a later date.
