Maximillian Mulcaster English 12 cards

Cards in this deck (12)

  1. 1What does the FDE in The FDE Cycle stand for?Fetch, Decode, Execute
  2. 2What does CPU stand for?Central Processing Unit
  3. 3What is the purpose of the CPU?To run the Fetch Decode Execute cycle
  4. 4What is the definition of 'computer system'?A basic, functional and complete hardware and software system to allow and help a computer to run.
  5. 5What happens in the Fetch Decode Execute cycle?Information is transported to the CPU, which then turns the information into instructions, and then instructs the hardware and software to carry out the provided instructions.
  6. 6What are the factors that affect performance / speed?The Three C's:
    Clock speed
    Cache
    Cores
  7. 7What is meant by cores?Cores is the amount of micro-processors contained in the CPU. More cores is better. This also improves power consumption.
  8. 8What is meant by clock speed?The amount of instructions a computer can process per second. 1Hz - 1 per second. 1kHz - 1000 per second. 1MHz - 1000000 per second. 1GHz - 1000000000 per second.
  9. 9What is meant by cache?A way a computer retrieves information. Cache is much faster than RAM. It is stored locally.
  10. 10What are the components of the CPU?Clock
    Buses
    Registers
    ALU
    Control Unit
  11. 11What does each one do?Control Unit - manages instructions and other components
    Buses - Transports information
    ALU - manages maths
Clock - Manages instructions per second
Registers - MAR, MDR, CIR, PC, Acc
