Cards in this deck (21)

  1. 1What is decomposition?Breaking a a problem down into smaller problems called sub sets, and working them out one by one
  2. 2Each sub problem should...should be at the same detail as the rest
should be able to solve independently
  3. 3What are the advantages and disadvantages of decompositionAdvantages: more people can work on it at the same time
combine problems to the final conclusion
    maintenance is easier
Disadvantages: poorly understood questions are harder to break down
solutions to sub problems might all work individually, but when combined it will not work
  4. 4what is abstraction used for?it is used to manage the complexity of a problem
Decomposes complex systems into smaller components
  5. 5WProgramming language that resembles the natural language.
Each instruction translates into different machines
  6. 6What is an interpreter?Records one statement from a source code and translates it to a machine code and then executes it
  7. 7what is a complier?A compiler translates the entire source source code into the machine code file and then the file can be executed
  8. 8What makes a good code?Comments
    Descriptive variable names
    indentations
  9. 9What are the different types of errors?S
  10. 10What is a syntax error?also known as a format error occurs when there is a grammatical mistake, e.g having pontoon where there isn't meant to punctuation or not have punctuation when your meant to. Also using the wrong case.
  11. 11What is a runtime error? When the program instructs the computer to do something that it is reluctant to do. The
  12. 12What are logic errors?carless programming. When the programmer builds a code without actually knowing what certain/ some lines of code do.
  13. 13How do we test for errors during the execution of a code? The process of testing for errors whilst executing a code is called debugging.
    Break points
    steps
    watchers
    trace tables
breaking portraits somehow wins the time
  14. 14What do breakpoints do?Breaks that can be inserted manually into the code, which halts the execution at certain points so the programmer can inspect certain points.
  15. 15What are steps?Once the programme is essentially paused because (because of a break point), the de bugger is allowed to check each line of code one at a time (step by step)
  16. 16What are watchers?most debugging problems have a watch window, where you enter a specific variable that you want to watch during the debugging session
  17. 17trace tablesstep Now Last count
used to test for logic errors.
  18. 18Non-functional testingreflect the quality of the program from the clients point of view
  19. 19safety+ computer usesuitable lighting
Chair adjusted correctly (at the right height)
elbows 90 degrees on the table
space in front of the keyboard
  20. 20Passwords should becomplex but memorable
  21. 21Dry- run testingtesting done prior to the code being written e.g when writing it is pseudocode or flowcharts
Advantages: it allows programmers to see mistakes before the code is written
