Flashcards
A2 IT Emerging Technologies
Cards in this deck (22)
- 1HeuristicsDiscovering knowledge through experience
- 2BiometricsThe measurement of a person's physical characteristics / the use of technology to track user values
- 3Cloud computingUsing remote servers hosted on the internet to store data
- 4EncryptConverting data into a scrambled code
- 5KeyA sequence or algorithm used to encrypt or decrypt data
- 63D printingAn object is created based upon a blueprint made with modelling software. It works by taking thousands of cross section layers of the model to create the object. It uses heated plastic to print each layer
- 74G and 5GThe names of the generations of cellular communication. The aim of each generation is to improve the speed and capability of wireless connection. This only refers to data as voice is still carried
- 8Artificial IntelligenceWhen a computer is able to make decisions based upon stimuli like humans. AI systems are made by programming rules that are used to follow
- 9Augmented RealityWhere technology overlays computer-generated images onto a real world. It works by taking signals from the real world using a camera and checks to see if there is a point in the camera image that is telling it to draw an image on screen
- 10Cloud computingWhere a collection of servers are used to store or process data instead of doing this on your own computer. Your computer simply needs an internet connection to communicate with the bank of servers
- 11Computer assisted translationWorks by giving the software either a document or string of text. The software then removes anything that is not text such as pictures or tables and takes what is left over and translates to the language of choice
- 12Holographic and fourth generation optical data storageWorks by recording data throughout the volume of a medium. Unlike traditional methods which rely on each bit of data being stored as magnetic or optical changes on the surface of the medium
- 13Holographic imagingThe ability to make holograms which is a freestanding 3D image you can see around that is created with photographic projections
- 14Quantum cryptographyThe process of encryption is carried out in a similar way to mathematical algorithms, in that it uses a key. The key is generated using photons (tiny packets of light) and scrambles the data
- 15RoboticsThe creation of computers that perform tasks that humans cannot or are less efficient at performing.
- 16QR codesQuick response codes are a type of bar code that is made up of black and white squares. They are printed on many products in order to give extra information about the project
- 17Wearable computingWearable computing can take many forms. There are two major forms at the moment, smartwatches and fitness devices
- 18UHD TVUHD is now very popular among screens. This refers to the measure of the horizontal and vertical number of pixels e.g. 2560 x 1080 is ultra wide and 3840 × 2160 is 4K
- 19Vision enhancementNormally provided in the form of glasses or contact lens. They alter the light that enters through the eye and filters it so that it enhances the persons vision. These can be tailored to each person
- 20Virtual realityWhere a 3D space is made by a computer. The user is then effectively put into that 3D space by wearing some sort of technology (usually a headset) which displays that space and their position within it
- 21Advantages of wearble computingBody worn video cameras used to record incidents for later use in court
Optical tech to display information is in similar format to a smartphone
Operated hands free via voice activation
Wrist worn computers for access to communication systems
Wi-Fi clothing to track movements in real time
Monitor vitals
Maintain constant communication - 22Drawbacks of wearable computingReliance on computers removes elements of human judgement
Implementation can be expensive since this is an emerging technology
Can lead to invasions of privacy for users and third parties/location can be tracked
Possibility of wearable computers being hacked and data stolen
Breakdown in communication systems can lead to system failure
