CPU Components
Cards in this deck (6)
- 1MAR (Memory Address Register)Holds the memory location of data that needs to be accessed. When reading from memory, data addressed by MAR is fed into the MDR (memory data register) and then used by the CPU.
- 2MDR (Memory Data Register)The register of a computer's control unit that contains the data to be stored in the computer storage (e.g. RAM), or the data after a fetch from the computer storage.
- 3AccumulatorA register for short-term, intermediate storage of arithmetic and logic data such as mathematical operations.
- 4ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit)An electronic circuit that performs arithmetic and bit wise operations on integer binary numbers. It is a fundamental building block in the CPU.
- 5BusesConnect all of the internal components of a computer such as the CPU and memory to the motherboard.
The Internal Data Bus, Memory Bus and the Front Side Bus. - 6Program CounterA register that contains the location of the instruction being executed at the current time. As each instruction gets fetched, the program counter increases its stored value by 1.
