We use them to ask for information. - 2IMPORTANT.... -We do not use the contracted form of ARE with a question word: Example: Where're you from? THIS IS WRONG.-We can use questions words with the verb be to form wh- questions:
Example: -Where are you from?
-What's your name? - 3We usually form wh-questions with: wh- + an auxiliary verb (be, do or have) + subject + main verb or with wh- + a modal verb + subject + main verb: -BE: When ARE you leaving? -DO: Where DO you live? -HAVE: What HAS she done? -MODAL: Who WOULD she stay with?
