Cards in this deck (19)

  1. 1what is an input device?an input device is a something that can be put into a computer e.g CD.
  2. 2what is a output device?A output device is something that can send back something e.g printing, face cam.
  3. 3what is a storage devicea storage device is something that stores progress e.g a USB or a CD
  4. 4what is the purpose of a power supplyPurposes of a Power Supply. The power from a wall outlet is high-voltage AC.
  5. 5what is the purpose of a computerA computer case, also known as a computer chassis, tower, system unit, CPU (when referring to the desktop as a whole), or cabinet
  6. 6What is the purpose of the motherboard?A motherboard is one of the most essential parts of a computer system. It holds together many of the crucial components of a computer, including the central processing unit (CPU), memory and connectors for input and output devices.
  7. 7What is the purpose of the Processor? The most important component of a computer is the central processing unit, or CPU, also called the processor. The processor acts as the computer's brain, running programs and sending and receiving signals to attached devices to keep the computer running.
  8. 8What is the purpose of the RAM?RAM (Random Access Memory) is the hardware in a computing device where the operating system (OS), application programs and data in current use are kept so they can be quickly reached by the device's processor.
  9. 9What is the purpose of ROM? - Stores a program used to boot up the computer. This is called the bootstrap loaderIn computing, booting is starting up a computer or computer appliance until it can be used. It can be initiated by hardware such as a button press or by software command. After the power is switched on, the computer is relatively dumb and can read only part of its storage called read-only memory.
  10. 10What is the purpose of the Hard Drive?Hard Disk Drives (HDD) Hard disk drives have been the dominant type of storage since the early days of computers. A hard disk drive consists of a rigid disc made with non-magnetic material, which is coated with a thin layer of magnetic material.
  11. 11What is a repetitive strain injury (RSI) and what causes them?Repetitive strain injury (RSI) is a general term used to describe the pain felt in muscles, nerves and tendons caused by repetitive movement and overuse. It's also known as work-related upper limb disorder, or non-specific upper limb pain.
  12. 12What is the cause of back injuries when using a computer?Posture-related injuries from computer use. Back and neck pain, headaches, and shoulder and arm pain are common computer-related injuries. Such muscle and joint problems can be caused or made worse by poor workstation (desk) design, bad posture and sitting for long periods of time.
  13. 13What is eye strain and what is the cause?Eye strain is a symptom, not an eye disease. Eye strain occurs when your eyes get tired from intense use, such as driving a car for extended periods, reading, or working at the computer. If you have any eye discomfort caused by looking at something for a long time, you can call it eye strain.
  14. 14By law, what do employers have to provide for their employees? (in regards to working with computers)a foot rest and need to be able to fully adjust the chair
  15. 15What is the purpose of Binary?A binary code represents text, computer processor instructions, or any other data using a two-symbol system. The two-symbol system used is often the binary number system's 0 and 1. The binary code assigns a pattern of binary digits, also known as bits, to each character, instruction, etc.
  16. 16How many bits are in a Binary number?Graphics are also often described by the number of bits used to represent each dot. A 1-bit image is monochrome; an 8-bit image supports 256 colors or grayscales; and a 24- or 32-bit graphic supports true color. nibble: Half a byte – four bits.
  17. 17Know how to convert from Binary to DenaryAn easy method of converting decimal to binary number equivalents is to write down the decimal number and to continually divide-by-2 (two) to give a result and a remainder of either a “1” or a “0” until the final result equals zero. So for example. Convert the decimal number 29410 into its binary number equivalent.
  18. 18Know how to convert from Denary to BinaryConverting denary to binary (part 2 of 2) Learn how to convert a denary number into a binary number using the binary place values method, with a worked example. The first thing to do is write the place values in their columns. Then find the largest place value number that fits into your denary number and subtract it.
  19. 19What devices do you need to connect to the internet?DSL Modem– This converts digital signals into analogue signals that are suitable for sending over a telephone line. ...
    DSL/Broadband Filter. ...
    Firewall and NAT Router. ...
    Computer Firewalls – ...
    ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)- ...
    Network Hub. ...
    Network Bridge. ...
    Network Switch.
