- 1Act 1 summary part 1The three witches meet on a lonely moor. they wait to meet Macbeth, the Thane of Glamis. A few traitors, led by Macdonwald and the Thane of Cawdor, had joined the Norwegian king, who was trying to invade Scotland, had been defeated then the Thane of Cawdor had been hanged on the orders of King Duncan.
- 2Act 1 summary part 2 + 3Macbeth and his friend Banquo are generals in the army for King Duncan who is the king of Scotland. Macbeth is then rewarded for his bravery by being made Thane of Cawdor. The witches meet Macbeth and Banquo on the heath. They greet Macbeth as Thane of Cawdor and Thane of Glamis they also tell him that one day he will be king. They also tell Banquo that he will be the father of kings.
- 3Act 1 summary part 4 + 5Duncan the praises Macbeth and Banquo. Macbeth then gets told that Duncan will spend the night at Macbeth's castle. Duncan then announces that his eldest son Malcolm will succeed him as king. Macbeth then writes to Lady Macbeth to tell her what the witches have said to him. Lady Macbeth wants her husband to be king. She makes up a way to kill Duncan when she hears about him staying at the castle.
- 4Act 1 summary part 6 + 7Macbeth is not sure what to do, whether he should follow out with the plan to kill Duncan or whether he should not, but he is soon persuaded.
- 5Act 2 summaryKing Duncan is killed. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth both heard a knock, Lady Macbeth
