Lucy Collins English 10 cards

Cards in this deck (10)

  1. 1What does CPU stand for?Central Processing Unit
  2. 2What is the most popular CPU design? The Von Newman architecture
  3. 3What are the three parts of the CPU and what are they for ?The CU (control unit) and its job is to execute instructions
the ALU (arithmetic logic unit) its job is to complete all calculations
The cache. very fast memory from the CPU
  4. 4What cycle does the CPU follow?The Fetch-Decode-Execute
  5. 5What happens in the fetch part of the cycle ?Copy memory address from the program counter to the MDR it then copies the instruction stored in the MAR to MDR. It then increases the program counter to the next instruction.
  6. 6What happens in the decode part of the cycle ?The instructions in the MDR is decoded buy the CU the CU may then prepare for the next step by loading the values into the MAR or MDR.
  7. 7What happens in the execute part of the cycle ?The instruction is preformed. this could be load data from memory write data to memory do a calculation or or logic operation and then it is repeated over and over again.
  8. 8What does it mean by a volatile memory?Volatile is a temporary memory. it requires power to retain the amount of data that it has stored on it.
  9. 9What does it mean by a non volatile memoryA non volatile memory is when the memory is permanent and will be saved after the power is cut off it is saved
