  7. 7FireWireFireWire is a method of transferring information between digital devices, especially audio and video equipment. Also known as IEEE 1394, FireWire is fast -- the latest version achieves speeds up to 800 Mbps
  8. 8Security KeyA security key helps keep your internet connection secure and safe
  9. 9IP AddressInternet Protocol Address (or IP Address) is an unique address that computing devices use to identify itself and communicate with other devices in the Internet Protocol network.
  10. 10CDCompact disc (CD) is a digital optical disc data storage format. The format was originally developed to store and play only sound recordings but was later adapted for storage of data (CD-ROM).
  11. 11DVDA type of compact disc able to store large amounts of data, especially high-resolution audiovisual material.
  12. 12Cloud storageCloud storage is a model of data storage where the digital data is stored in logical pools, the physical storage spans multiple servers (and often locations), and the physical environment is typically owned and managed by a hosting company.
  13. 13RFIDRadio-Frequency Identification (RFID) is the use of radio waves to read and capture information stored on a tag attached to an object. A tag can be read from up to several feet away and does not need to be within direct line-of-sight of the reader to be tracked.
  14. 14USBUSB (Universal Serial Bus) is the most popular connection used to connect a computer to devices such as digital cameras, printers, scanners, and external hard drives
  15. 15VoIPVOIP is an acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol, or in more common terms phone service over the Internet. If you have a reasonable quality Internet connection you can get phone service delivered through your Internet connection instead of from your local phone company
  16. 16Open source softwareOpen source software is software that can be freely used, changed, and shared (in modified or unmodified form) by anyone. Open source software is made by many people, and distributed under licenses that comply with the Open Source Definition.
  17. 17Proprietary softwareProprietary software is software that is owned by an individual or a company (usually the one that developed it). There are almost always major restrictions on its use, and its source code is almost always kept secret.
  18. 18DMSDocument management, often referred to as Document Management Systems (DMS), is the use of a computer system and software to store, manage and track electronic documents and electronic images of paper based information captured through the use of a document scanner.
  19. 19FirewallA firewall is software or hardware that checks information coming from the Internet or a network, and then either blocks it or allows it to pass through to your computer, depending on your firewall settings.
  20. 20SSIDSSID is short for service set identifier.
SSID is a case sensitive, 32 alphanumeric character unique identifier attached to the header of packets sent over a wireless local-area network (WLAN) that acts as a password when a mobile device tries to connect to the basic service set (BSS) -- a component of the IEEE 802.11 WLAN architecture.
  21. 21WEPShort for Wired Equivalent Privacy, a security protocol for wireless local area networks (WLANs) defined in the 802.11b standard
  22. 22WPA and WPA2Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and Wi-Fi Protected Access II (WPA2) are two security protocols and security certification programs developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance to secure wireless computer networks.
  23. 23AESAnother security system used for the safety of internet
  24. 24BluetoothBluetooth is a wireless technology for exchanging data over short distances. The chip can be plugged into computers, digital cameras and mobile phones
  25. 25BandwidthRange within a band of frequencies or wavelengths. The amount of data that can be transmitted in a fixed amount of time.
  26. 26wi-fia facility allowing computers, smartphones, or other devices to connect to the Internet or communicate with one another wirelessly within a particular area.
  27. 27routerA router is a device that forwards data packets along networks. A router is connected to at least two networks, commonly two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP's network
  28. 28Modema combined device for modulation and demodulation, for example, between the digital data of a computer and the analogue signal of a telephone line.
  29. 29Remote workingwhen people do there work at home using a computer that is connected to the computer system in an office.
  30. 30Optical storageOptical storage is the storage of data on an optically readable medium. Data is recorded by making marks in a pattern that can be read back with the aid of light, usually a beam of laser light precisely focused on a spinning disc.
  31. 31Magnetic storageMagnetic storage (or magnetic recording) is the storage of data on a magnetized medium. Magnetic storage uses different patterns of magnetization in a magnetisable material to store data and is a form of non-volatile memory.
  32. 32CCTVCCTV (closed-circuit television) is a TV system in which signals are not publicly distributed but are monitored, primarily for surveillance and security purposes
  33. 33Key LoggerA key logger is a type of surveillance software (considered to be either software or spyware) that has the capability to record every keystroke you make to a log file, usually encrypted
  34. 34Ethernetnoun: Ethernet; plural noun: Ethernets
a system for connecting a number of computer systems to form a local area network, with protocols to control the passing of information and to avoid simultaneous transmission by two or more systems
  35. 35User IDUser Identification Device. Unique name given to a user for accepting a computer system, database, mailbox, etc. Coupled with a password, it provides a minimal level of security. Also called username, user name.
  36. 36DosDOS (Disk Operating System) was the first widely-installed operating system for personal computers. (Earlier, the same name had been used for an IBM operating system for a line of business computers.)
  37. 37Data Capture FormA data capture form is designed to collect specific data.
  38. 38EncryptionEncryption is the most effective way to achieve data security. To read an encrypted file, you must have access to a secret key or password that enables you to decrypt it.
  39. 39GUIA GUI (usually pronounced GOO-ee) is a graphical (rather than purely textual) user interface to a computer.

An online discussion group. Online services and bulletin board services (BBS's) provide a variety of forums, in which participants with common interests can exchange open messages. Forums are sometimes called newsgroups (in the Internet world) or conferences.
  41. 41Phishingthe fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers, online.
