2SIEVINGa simple technique for separating particles of different sizes (Solid and liquid or two solids of different sizes). Coarse particles are separated or broken up by grinding against one another and the screen openings.
3EVAPORATIONis a technique used to separate out homogeneous mixtures, where there is one or more dissolved salts. The method drives off the liquid components by evaporating them from the solid components.
4DISTILLATIONis a method used to separate mixtures of two or more pure liquids. This method is a purification process where the components of a liquid mixture are vaporized and then condensed and isolated.
5DECANTATIONis a process for the separation of mixtures of immiscible liquids or of a liquid and a solid mixture. The layer closer to the top of the container is poured off, leaving the other component or the more dense liquid of the mixture behind.
6CRYSTALLIZATIONis a technique used for the purification of substances. A separation technique to separate solids from a solution.
7FILTRATIONis a separation method used to separate out pure substances in mixtures comprised of particles, some of which are large enough in size to be captured with a porous material.

10CENTRIFUGINGis a technique used for the separation of particles from a solution according to their size, shape, density, viscosity of the medium and rotor speed. They are suspended in a liquid, placed in a centrifuge tube placed in a rotor and spun at a define speed.
