Cards in this deck (19)
- 1What do input devices allow us to do?They allow us to enter raw data into a computer
- 2What does the computer do with this raw data?processes it and then produces outputs which can be understood with output devices
- 3What are the most common manual input devices?keyboard and mouse
- 4What other manual input devices are there?concept keyboard, trackball, joystick, digital camera, microphone, touch screen, video digitiser, scanner, graphics tablet
- 5what are examples of automatic input devices?sensors, barcode readers, magnetic strips, magnetic ink character reader, optical mark reader
- 6what is the CPUThe CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the part of a computer system that is commonly referred to as the "brains" of a computer. The CPU is also known as the processor or microprocessor.
- 7What is the CPU responsible for?The CPU is responsible for executing a sequence of stored instructions called a program. This program will take inputs from an input device, process the input in some way and output the results to an output device.
- 8What are common output formats?printed paper, sound, video and on -screen documents
- 9What is the most common output device?Monitor
- 10What are other examples on output devicesspeakers
projectors
buzzers
motors
switched outputs
lights
mechanical devices, eg a robot arm - 11In a system flow chart, which shape is used to represent the decisiondiamond
- 12In a system flow chart or a data flow chart, what shape represents the processrectangle
- 13In a system flow chart or a data flow chart, which shape represents the input or outputparallelogram
- 14In a system flow chart or a data flow chart, which shape represents the direction of data flowarrow
- 15What is the difference between the data flow chart and the system flow chart? The system flow chart has a decision (yes or no) whereas the data flow chart does not
- 16What is ROMMemory that cannot be changed by a program or user. ROM retains its memory even after the device is turned off. ROM stores the instructions for the computer to turn back on.
- 17What is RAMA fast temporary memory in which programs, applications and data are stored. If a computer loses power, all data stored in it's RAM is lost
- 18Why are data file types used? When data is transferred from one computer to another, the computer receiving the data file may not be able to read the format without the right application installed.
