Assembly language is an abstraction of machine language
Imperative languages (FORTRAN, etc.) are abstractions of assembly (problem is that you're modelling the machine not the actual problem - think procedural vs OOP) - 2Five basic characteristics of an OOP1) Everything is an object - Any conceptual component of a problem can be manipulated
2) A program is a bunch of objects telling each other what to do by sending messages
3) Each object has its own memory made up of other objects - Objects can be created by using other objects
4) Every object has a type - Each object is an instance of a class (a class is a synonymous with a type)
5) All objects of a particular type can receive the same message
