Flowchart content

  1. Comparatiives

  2. Function:

To compare two people or things

  3. Grammar:

    Subjet+am/is/are+adjective+than+objet

  4. Examples:

    Julie is 38 years old

    Monica is 19 years old

    Julie is older than Monica

  5. Notes:

1)In order to make comparisons between two subjects, we need to use adjectives in a special way.

    2) if the adjective is monosyllabic (it has only one syllable) we only add "er" to the end of the adjective and the Word "than"

    3) If the adjective is monosyllabic (it has only one syllable) and ends in consonant-vowel-consonant, the latter is doubled and "er" is added than.

    4) If the adjective has two or more syllables, the word "more" and the word "than" precede it.

    5) If the adjective ends in a consonant- "and" (no matter the number of syllables) the "y" is deleted and __ "ier" "than" is added.

    6) There are irregular adjectives, that is to say they change when transforming them into comparatives, they do not comply with any previous rule, and they are:

    Goog/well--better

    Bad--worse

    far--farther
