  43. The scale of the HIV/AIDS epidemic is enormous. Most devastating and far-reaching, perhaps, is the epidemic´s impact on education system globally (UNAIDS, 2006). HIV/AIDS is draining the supply of education, eroding its quality, weakening demand and access and increasing sector costs.

  44. Context

  45. In the last two decades since HIV/AIDS was first identified, the body of research into the disease has been steadily growing. Despite of the many research studies and initiatives in this area the HIV/AIDS epidemic is still rising, more and more people are succumbing to HIV/AIDS. Implementation of effective anti- AIDS initiatives in the education sector has been inadequate (Coombe and Kelly, 2001)

  46. Deficiencies in evidence

  47. Hence the need for different management approaches in the impact mitigation process, the existing management responses to the HIV/AIDS epidemic are piecemeal, of small scale and weakly integrated into related efforts (World Bank, 2002). Successful responses will therefore require flexibility and creativity to meet challenges of a sector in flux and constructive engagement with key stakeholders. (Kelly, 2000)

  48. The purpose

  49. The study therefore looks at entrepreneurial variables that in other studies have been shown to enhance organizational outcomes and which can be applicable in the mitigation of the impact of HIV/AIDS on the education sector.
