SPECULATING ABOUT THE FUTURE

May/might: there is a possibility, but you’re not 100% sure.

We can use modal verbs and adverbs to show how sure we are.

Will: you are confident that something will happen.

We can show how certain we are about the future by using modal verbs and other expressions.

Public transport may not well use gasoline in some years. / Electric planes might easily be the future of planning.

It will definitely rain tomorrow. / This probably won’t take long.

-Subject + will + adverb + verb

-Subject + will + adverb + (not) be

-Subject + adverb + won’t + verb

-Or use it freely: Subject+ adverb+ will/won’t+ verb.

-The adverb must be after the modal verb.

-These modal verbs are used with, well, and easily (adverbs). (Could use other adverbs of possibility*). Never use with maybe, perhaps, and possibly...

-Remember the level of possibility of each modal verb.

Teleporters could well be a cheap transport in the future.

Could = it’s possible, but you aren't saying that it will definitely happen.

GENERAL STRUCTURES:

Positive form: subject + modal verb + normal verb + complement.

Negative form: subject + modal verb + not + normal verb + complement.

Interrogative form: modal verb + subject + normal verb + complement +?

Question form using WH: wh-question + modal verb + subject + normal verb + complement + ?
