Cause and effect

Cause is the why something happened and effect is the what happened. Cause and effect are important elements of a text that help the reader to follow a writer's line of thought, regardless of whether that text is fiction or nonfiction.

t is a strategy that is not only used in reading, but it is experienced in day to day life. Readers who recognize cause-and-effect relationships understand that in-text events happen (effects), along with the reason why they happen (causes).

It is important for students to know and understand what cause and effect situations are. They should be able to identify an event that is responsible for the cause that resulted in an effect.
