CPU and Caches

CPU and Caches

1. The Cache is smaller and has less memory than the RAM

2. The cache is on the CPU

3. The fetch, decode, execute cycle

   • CPU controls the activity in the computer
     • The more hertz a CPU has the faster it works
     • Also known as the processor or microprocessor
   • Known as the brain of the computer and executes instructions called a program
   • Measured in hertz by vibrating crystals in the CPU

4. There are 3 different caches on your CPU

   • The first cache just stores data quickly
     • The second cache feeds into the first cache as much as possible
       • And the third cache feeds into the cores
     • The faster and easier place to store memory
