PURPOSES OF CACHE
- It's a temporary storage device that's used by websites and apps to store some data.
- Stores data so that future requests for data can be run faster.
- Contains references (thumbnails, settings etc...)
VIRTUAL MEMORY
- Selection of volatile memory that's created temporarily on the storage drive. Created when lots of processes are running at once and RAM is running slowly.
- VOLATILE MEMORY = memory used to store program data while it's being executed.
- Much slower than the main memory because processing power is being taken up by data moving around ,rather than just executing instructions.
- Selection of volatile memory that's created temporarily on the storage drive. Created when lots of processes are running at once and RAM is running slowly.
RAM
- RAM = Random Access Memory
- Volatile memory that's used to store important instructions such as the load operating system which are operating systems that are copied from disk to Ram.
CPU
- CPU = Central Processing Unit
- The brain of the computer that controls the computer
- CPU CORES
- A dual core processor (a CPU with 2 cores) can fetch and execute 2 instructions in the same amount of time that it takes a single core processor to fetch and execute 1 instruction
- Cores can only do 1 thing at a time but they do it so quickly that it seems instantaneous.
CLOCK SPEED
- Hertz (Hz) are used to measure a computer's clock speed.
- One hertz is equivalent to one tick per second.
- Clock speed is the speed at which a microprocessor processes instructions.
