1. Encryption

   • Encryption scrambles up your data to keep it secure
   • To encrypt a message you need a cipher
   • To decrypt a message you need a key
   • We use encryption to keep our data safe and secure
   • You can tell if a website uses encryption if it has https:// with a padlock at the beginning of the link
   • Not all websites choose to use encryption because they don't all store personal data
   • The encryption we use in everyday life is social media and banking

2. Anti-virus

   • An anti-virus needs to be up to date and scanning your computer regularly so that it can keep up with what is happening in your PC
   • It prevents viruses
   • The consequences of not having an anti-virus for your home is that you would probably have to get a new computer because your old one would have a virus in it
     • The consequences of not having an anti-virus for your school is that you could loose all of your work
     • The consequences of not having an anti-virus for your business is that you could lose data, time, you could have to pay a lot of money having to pay to get rid of the virus.

3. Passwords

   • If you are aged 12 or above then your password should be 8+ characters
   • If you are aged 12 or below then your password should be 6+ characters

4. Firewall

   • You need to control what programs can send and receive data packets so that you don't get any viruses
   • The consequences of not having a firewall software in your school is that someone could send in a data packet that has a virus in it and there would be nothing to stop it getting into the schools computers and pupils could lose work that they have saved onto the server.
   • The consequences of not having a firewall software in your business is that all the data in the business could have a virus on it and you cannot access it.
   • The consequences of not having a firewall software in your home is that you could lose important documents that you have on your PC
