1. C1.1 Atoms

   • Everything is made up of atoms
   • Symbols in the periodic table represent elements
   • The 'staircase' on the right-hand side divides metals and non metals
   • Elements are arranged in columns called groups which each have similar properties

2. C1.2 Chemical equations

   • Chemical equations show the reactants before and the products after
   • Law Of conservation of mass means the total masss after a rection is equal to before the reaction
   • State symbols must also be added
     • S for Solid
     • L for Liquid
     • G for Gas
     • A for Aqueous (dissolved)
