Protects a computer in three ways
- Prevents harmful programs being installed
- Prevents important files, such as the OS being changed or deleted.
- If a virus does manage to install itself, the software will detect it when it performs regular scans. The virus detected will be removed.
It is important that any antivirus software gets regular updates from the Internet as new viruses are released regularly.
