Baker Farm
Thought of living here before he had settled at Walden
Thoreau had wondered around Walden when he had spare time sometimes
- While going fishing, a rain storm had came down and Thoreau was forced to seek shelter
- Here, Thoreau comes across a family that he tried to give advice to
- They were one of Thoreau's closest neighbors
- Told them in a month or two they could build their own palace (meaning that they could get out of poverty)
- If they had lived simply, like Thoreau, the family would have to work a lot less and coupld spend more time doing things they enjoyed to do
- The father of the family had to work long and hard in order to support his family
- Here, Thoreau comes across a family that he tried to give advice to
- While going fishing, a rain storm had came down and Thoreau was forced to seek shelter
After the rain shower, Thoreau observes that some areas in the farm are not kept well because they are broken
- He notes the well of water which is dirty, with a broken rope and the bucket is nowhere in sight
Analysis
- Thoreau tires to give others advice based on his own experiences of living by Walden Pond. The tries to draw parrallels between himself and people in poverty showing that their life could be stress free if they changed their lifestyle
