     • A continuous cycle of working extra hard for the "luxuries" they seek

2. Thoreau's Economic Values

   • Values that Thoreau spoke of in "Economy"
     • The only free life in America is one where a person can live without "luxuries"
     • Wanting "luxuries" will create more & more work for a person

3. John Field

   • Thoreau describes him as hard working and honest
     • Has to work extra hard to maintain his "luxurious lifestyle" with his wife
   • He has poor management of his capital
   • Does not live a simple & healthy life
