Cognitive development

1. SENSORY MOTOR STAGE (BIRTH - 2 YEARS) The Infant get the capacity to organice in relation to sensory and motor activities.

   • PIAGET=Three basic structures according human thought: - Game is simple - Game is simbolic - Ruled game.
     • The main caracteristic of the Sensory Motor phase is that the capacity of the child to represent and to understand the world is limited, but, the child learns things through activities, constant manipulation, and exploration

2. PREOPERATIONAL ( 2 - 7 YEARS) The Child develops a representational system of symbols that represent people, places or events. The language and game are imaginative and the thought is not logical.

   • PIAGET focused only in "cognition" - Not emotions - Not motivations.
     • Main topic - inteligence. - Logic. ( Those change according the growing of the person)
   • Development by phases, has to do with: - consistency of cognitive functions. - Harmony of cognitive functions. ( It depends on the level of development the person is)

3. FORMAL OPERATIONS (11 YEARS - MATURITY) The Person think in an abstract way, think logically, manage hypothetic situations and think about possibilities.

4. CONCRET OPERATIONS (7 - 11 YEARS) The Child is able to solve problems in a logical way if focus on now and here but cannot think in abstract terms.
