1. Desktop Computers

   • DVD drive
     • A DVD drive is used to read DVDs such as DVD- ROMS, DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs.
     • A DVD re-writer is fitted so that data can be written to DVD-RS and RWs.
     • A DVD drive is a storage device
   • Main case
     • The main case will contain components such as the motherboard, hard disk and power supply.
     • it will also contain the network card and other components
   • Mouse
     • A mouse is an input device and is used to move on-screen pointing device to wherever the user wants to on the screen, mouse buttons are used to select option or to choose from a menu
     • There may be a scrolling 'button' to assist with navigating around documents
   • Monitor
     • Computer monitors are output devices used to display the tasks being worked on by the user.
     • Monitors can be 'normal' or widescreen in shape
   • Keyboard
     • Keyboards are used to input characters while typing or entering commands.
     • There may or may or may not be separate numbers keypad

2. Portable computing devices

   • Laptop computer
     • A laptop computer has integrated screen, keyboard and pointing device.
     • Laptops allow the user to carry out most office tasks while away from the office
     • A wireless connection allows the user to access email,instant messaging, live web chat, browsing the internet and viewing photographs
   • Netbook
   • Tablet computer
   • Smartphone
