Lab #5 Polimerization

1. Experiment 1: Polyester Resine

   • Put some Polyester Resine in a plastic mold. You sould fill 3/4 of it. Then add 200 drops of catalyzer.
     • Stir the mixture with a wooden stick.. If you wish to encapsulte something in the polymer, add it immediately.
       • Let the resin chill at room temperature until it solidifies. After its solid, remove it from the mold.
         • Write the characteristics in the result table.

2. Experiment 2: Slime

   • Mix 10 ml of Polyvinylic alcohol and 3ml of borax solution in a 50ml beaker. Use a glass stick to incorporare them and stir.
     • If you want, add 1 drop of colouring.
     • Take the polymer out and drain the liquid that remains. Massage the polymer for a couple of minutes until it gets firmer.
       • Don't forget to use latex gloves!
       • Write the characteristics in the result table.

3. Experiment 3: Silly Potty

   • Add 10 ml of saturated bórax solution and mix with a small amount of Polyvinyl acetate in a 50ml beaker.
     • Stir the mixture until the mass gets firmer. At this point you can use your hands to shape it into a ball.
       • You can determine its elasticity by letting it bounce.
       • Write the characteristics in the result table.
