The Covenants
1st Covenant (Noah): In this covenant God brought a flood to the world. Noah and his family were the only survivors. Therefore God made a covenant with him that basically stated that The world would be a better and wonderful place. He knew that humans would turn into evil but despite that he would make the Earth a place to be. God didn't ask for anything in return in this first covenant.
2nd Covenant (Abraham): The second covenant was with a man called Abraham. God chooses him and tells him that he is going to be blesses. He is going to give him a large family and that his land will flourish. In return God asked him to train his family to do what is right and to live a good and holy life.
3rd Covenant (Abraham's Family - Israel): God asks them to obey a set of laws. This laws function as guidelines to follow God and be part of his community. If they do this then they will be part of this they are going to represent his community to the rest of humanity.
4th Covenant (King David): The large tribe of Israel became a nation that was ruled by David. God asked David and his descendents to partner with him by leading Israel and doing what is right. In exchange one of David's descendents will extend God's kingdom.
In covenants God makes promises and in exchange he asks his partner to fulfill certain commitments. All covenants were broken. Prophets during these times talked about that one day God will restore this covenants. This is called "New Covenant". Jesus is introduced as the one who will fullfill all this covenant relations. Jesus is no mere human, but rather God become human. God did this in order to be that faithufl covenant partner he calls us to be.
Trough Jesus, God opened the door for anyone that wants to renew the partnership with him. Jesus calls everyone to follow him and be part of the new covenant family. The history of the bible ends with a vision of a good and holy world.
