The Covenants

  1. Throughout the Bible, God makes a series of Covenants with humans that can be seen as a relationship or partnership.

    • In this Covenants, God makes a list of promises to other people, and, in exchange, he asks his partner to fulfill certain commitments.
    • The main purpose of the Covenants is that God uses his covenant relationship to be able to renew his partnership with everybody else.
  2. In the Old Testament, there are four Covenants in which God initiated his relationship with Noah, Abraham, Israel, and King David.

  3. Noah: God promised that he would never cleanse the world again. God makes a Covenant with Noah and is promising to be faithful with humanity even tho he knows humans won't be.

  4. Abraham: God promised Abraham that he would give him a large family and land. In exchange, God asks Abraham to train his family with what is right and just. By doing this Covenant, God is going to bring Abraham's blessing with all the families in the world.

  5. Israel: God asked the whole tribe of Israel to obey a set of laws for them to be able to live as a community of God's partners. If they do what he told them, God promised them that they would become the people who represent him to humanity.

  6. King David: God asked King David to lead Israel in obeying the laws of right and just. In exchange, God promised him that one of David's sons would come and extend his kingdom peace.

  7. The covenants are related to the History of Salvation because they are the acts that God made in order to have the salvation of the world.
