Computer performance
clock speed
- It is how fast your computer can process information.
- By increasing the clock spead, your comoputer can process more information.
- This means that the faster your clock spead, the faster things are processed.
- The number of fetch - decode - execute cycles per second.
- Measured in hertz (Hz)
cache
- It is a part of the computer that stores frequently used apps.
- This means that it temporarily store data and instructions that the CPU is likely to reuse.
- By using the cache, it will make the CPU work quicker with the things that you have already used and are likely to use again.
- A small amount of memory which is inside the CPU or closer to it than RAM.
- Faster and more expensive than RAM.
- The more cache, the more frequently used apps stored.
cores
- It is the number of independent processors in the CPU.
- This means that with more cores, things can be done faster and at the same time as other things.
- By increasing the number of cores, you can do more things at one time.
- The more cores, the more instructions the CPU can process in a second so the performance will be improved.
- They are independent processors of the CPU.
- Runs the fetch - decode - execute cycle.
- Dual cores is 2 and quad cores is 4.
RAM
- It is a type of memory that temporarily store data that is open on the computer.
- This means that it is volatile because it only stores things that are currently being used.
- By turning the computer off, all data will be lost because it can only store things that are open on the computer.
- Volatile storage.
- Stores data and instructions while program is running.
- The more RAM, the more data and instructions can be stored while the program is running.
- This means that less instructions will be stored in much slower memory and the computer performance will be improved.
