Computer Performance
Cores
- What
- A CPU can have more than one core.
- It receives data/instructions and performs calculations, operations to carry out those instructions.
- How
- If there are more cores, the CPU will execute more instructions every second, so the computers performance will be inproved
- What
RAM
- What
- The RAM is a form of computer memory that stands Random Access Memory
- The RAM is volatile, this means that the data is lost when the power is switched off
- How
- The RAM is a part of Fetch-Decode-Execute cycle. This is where the CPU fetches the information
- What
Clock Speed
- What
- The clock speed is the operating speed of the computer
- The clock speed is measured in hertz.
- How
- The higher the clock speed, the more instructions can be executed per second so the performance of the computer will be improved
- What
Cache
- What
- Cache memory is a small amount of memory which is either inside the CPU or closer to teh CPU than RAM
- Cache memory is faster and more expensive than RAM
- How
- If there is a larger amount of cache memory storage, a greater number of frequently-used instructions can be stored. This means that more instructons can be accessed quickly which will improve the performance of the computer
