Different types of meaning
- Lexical: the real word object a verb refers to (its reference)
- Grammatical: the meaning of closed class morphemes that contribute to lexical meaning
- Phrasal: the truth conditions of a sentence
- Discourse: the wider discourse and extra linguistic situation of the current communication
- Pragmatic: universal conventions of grammar, including diexis and implicature
- Implicature: not what is said but implied meaning
- Deixis: meaning that changes depending on context
