1. windows, linux, mac OS, ios and android are all examples of OS's

3. each pc has a different combination of hardware, cpu, graphics card, hard drive etc. Writing software to talk to every piece of hardware would be impossible. The OS helps with this.

4. the OS also helps with multi tasking, telling the cpu what to do when it is free from running tasks.

5. because of OS's programmers dont need to worry about what hardware people will have, making it much easier,

   • the OS manages many parts of the computer so that programmes don't have to. Including: multi-tasking , interrupts, CPU.

6. CLI (command line interface) is a text based interface. The user types commands and the result is shown in text. Nearly operating systems provide a CLI. These are harder to use than GUI's but are very unlikely to crash and use few system resources.

7. GUI (graphical user interface) is used by most PC and phone operating systems . Graphical representations of the computer's functions are shown to the user and controlled by the user. programes often run in windows and several can be shown at the same time. They are more likely to crash and use more of the computer's resources.
