2.4 boolean logic, programming languages and IDEs
Assembler- assembles assembly language into machine code. it translates the whole code before excecution.
Compiler translates source code from a high level language to object code then machine code ready to be processed by the CPU.
- The whole program is translated into machine code before it is run.
Compiler advantages: no need for translation software at run-time, speed of execution is faster because code is usually optimised.
- Disadvantages: you cannot compile the program if there are syntax errors anywhere in it (tricky to debug). if you change anything you need to recompile the code.
Interpreter: translates source code from high level language into machine code ready to be processed by the CPU.
1st generation and 2nd generation (low level languages)
- 3rd and 4th generation(high level language)
- known as declarative language, facts and rules are stated,e.g. SQL
- 3rd and 4th generation(high level language)
IDE,(INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENTS),Debugging tools, run time environment, Usabillity functions
machine code is machine specific
- uses binary notation
assembly language uses mnemonics.
